An Alaskan Super Saturday!

Saturday was a fun filled day.

We started out going to the 2010 Yukon Quest, a 1,000 mile international dogsled race. Even numbered years it begins in Fairbanks, AK and ends in Whitehorse, Yukon. This year the temperature was right around 14 degrees above zero, a 34 degree improvement from 2008. The boys and I were interviewed by the channel 11 local news and actually made it on the evening news!

After some lunch we headed over to Birch Hill for some snowboarding. We don't usually take Jack along but it was warm enough for him to come play with Dan while Ben and I worked on our snowboarding skills. I actually made it down the bunny hill a few times without falling, which is a huge accomplishment! I have learned that a little speed and a steeper hill helps with carving.

We packed up our snowboarding gear and headed home for a shower and some vittles. Then we were off to the hockey game. Our generous friends from North Pole (no, not the Santa's elves) gave us their tickets since they were going to be out of town. It was a fun game, it went into overtime and then on to a shoot out, unfortunately the Nanooks lost. About two minutes into the game a puck flew into the crowd two rows in front of us and smacked a lady right in the face. Needless to say we followed the puck pretty intensely from there on out. I was scared that it would happen again, but Dan was only worried about getting called in to do a facial bones CT, luckily they were civilians.

The Yukon Quest was free, the guy at Birch Hill only charged us $8 for Ben and I to practice on the bunny hill, and we got to go to a hockey game... for freeeeeeee! (Name that movie)

A fun day as a family.... priceless!
