Beat Beethoven

The goal was to finish the 5k (3.1 miles) before the fairbanks symphony finished Beethoven's 5th (roughly 30 minutes). To help us keep the pace was Beethoven himself and numerous boomboxes and car stereos that were playing his symphony, the 5th one to be precise. If you beat him you get free tickets to see the fairbanks symphony. Now for you skeptics who think "30 minutes...please that is a ten minute mile, any fat fatty could do that". Well first off I did not see you there (if you are reading this and you were there, my humble apologies), second keep in mind the route. Here it is, the first 3/4 mile was straight up a hill and the rest of it was up and down half ice covered roads, every step could have been our last (that last part might be a slight exaggeration). If you still thinks it's easy, then get your fat rear off this computer and go run a 5k yourself. This was Lisa's first race and she did great. She beat Beethoven at a time of 29:06.4 and I came in slightly faster at 20:29.1. One of the highlights of the run was to see the beautiful Alaska Range glowing in the morning sun at the top of the first hill the other highlight was to see Lisa beat Beethoven because she was pretty convinced that she wouldn't.

Fabulous! Let me know if you ever want to do a run together. I think I'll need a little help keeping up with you though. My 5K time was about 25 minutes a couple years ago but I'll have to work on it now. I want to get into lots of races this summer. I love the concept of that Beethoven one. Fun!
